| They
are dogs specially trained for helping people with different
motor capabilities and people with hearing deficiency, both
in this order of complexity as for demands. In the first case,
they are trained for carrying several objects and take them
to the disabled person that cannot get them by himself/ herself
and for helping in the transportation of the wheelchair by pulling
a harness. |
|
| In
the second case, training is simpler and they learn to recognize
and differentiate the sound of phones, the door bell and others. In
both situations, it complies with the function of companion
dog, but there have been many situations in which these dogs
have saved their owner’s life in case of an unforeseen
situation. |

One of the most appropriate breeds to carry out this work is
the Labrador. The selection process is done in the same way
as for guide dogs.
There are no preferences as for sex, since all assistance dogs
must be sterilized without distinction. |

|
| Dogs
must have a proper behavior, so it is necessary that they receive
the obedience training customized for each user. It is important
that they obey and perform without making errors. They are taught
the specific skills, trying to make the dog have fun and enjoy
its work. |
