VIII HISTORY
Developed
from the dogs of Saint John brought up in Terranova for helping the
English and Portuguese fishermen of cod, the Labrador Retriever was
taken to England at the beginning of the XXth century. It was developed
there by means of cross breeding it with other retrievers. The breed
was recognized as such in 1903.
CHARACTERISTICS -
General appearance
It is a dog with a robust body, wide head, hanging ears placed right
next to the cheeks, dark eyes, wide nose; powerful jaws and neck to
be able to hold the prey during retrieval, a short body with a well
developed neck, with a straight upper line, and its characteristics
“otter type tail” used as a rudder when it swims. Vivacious,
loving and nice.
